The next MetrO Series event will be on Saturday 1st February, and once again in a Northern beach-side suburb, allowing a pre- or post-run swim.

The Metro Series is very suitable for beginners, with no previous orienteering experience necessary, and members of the public are most welcome at this event. Registration will be open from 4.15pm until the Start at 5.00pm. There will be a briefing for newcomers at approximately 4.45pm.

Event 8 in the 2013/2014 MetrO Series is in the NW Coastal suburbs, just 3.5kms from the beach.  With a 5pm start, the sea breeze should be in to create ideal conditions for the event.

MetrO Series events are 'enter on the day', with easy navigation and three distance options: Short 2-3kms, Medium 5-6kms and Long 7-8kms.  Registration will be open from 4.15pm, 45 minutes before the start time of 5.00pm.

EVENT CANCELLED

 

The scheduled Metro Orienteering Event at South Trigg, Trigg Beachon Saturday 11th Jan has been cancelled due to the extreme hot weather forecast.

OAWA has a policy to cover extreme weather events to protect both setters and orienteers. With a predicted 44 degree day and little or no sea breeze it is considered unsafe to hold the event.  We will look at options to re-schedule  the event and advise via the website and other means.

Ashdale Primary School, Darch

The final MetrO Series event for 2013. This weekends event starts at Ashdale Primary School and takes in Belvoir Park and Kingsway sporting fields. There will be up to 30 checkpoints marked on a specially prepared orienteering map that is used to help navigate your way around the local parks and streets.

A new 5 event Sprint Festival is being held in Canberra on January 23-27th 2014. Come along and race with the elites who will be using the festival to brush up their speed and sprint skills as part of a high performance training camp. All welcome. Entries close midnight Saturday 18th January 2014.

At the OAWA Annual Dinner and volunteer appreciation night the Orienteer of the Year awards were announced.

Based on performance over the year at designated State Orienteering League events, covering sprint, middle and long distance events, the awards recognise the performance and achievements in these events ranked and adjusted across age groups. This year some very close contests ensured.
