Sunday 8th September 2013: Wundabiniring Brook

There is only two weeks left until the State Orienteering Championships, Wundabiniring provides the perfect opportunity to keep refining your navigation skills. This weekends event in the bush provides a mixture of open areas and pockets of complex granite. The assembly area is in an open area and good for a picnic after your run.

This Sunday’s orienteering event is at Calophylla and once again features beautiful, open Wandoo forest. Enjoy the excitment of Orienteering this weekend.

This weekend Orienteering heads to Lake Leschenaultia, a 168 hectare bush land area made up of a variety of native trees including marri and wandoo. Wildflowers can be seen together with an abudance of bird life including ducks, geese, herons and swamp hens. Standard Foot Event at Lover’s Lane

Orienteering this week is on Sunday morning at the Lovers Lane area, just north east of Perth. It is an area with varied terrain offering something for everyone from novices to seasoned orienteers. WA orienteers will remember it from the State Championships in 2011.

Mountain Bike Orienteering, Karragullen

This MTB Orienteering event covers the track network around Karragullen.  The area contains a mix of variable riding gravel tracks, a complex network of dirt bike tracks, small pockets of pine plantation, open rideable land, rock surfaces and orchards. This event will include a short and easy navigation course of 5km, so there will be a course on offer for all abilities.

This a great opportunity to Come and Try Orienteering and enjoy the many attractions on offer at Whiteman Park, Recreation and Conservation Reserve. Congratulations to Ricky Thackray for winning the mountain bike orienteering sprint distance championships held near Canberra on the weekend of October 19-20.  Ricky beat a quality field including former Aus representative David Simpfendorfer, 2012 sprint champion Steven Todkill, and local gun riders Seb Dunne and Todd Nowack to claim victory.  In the supporting events, the ACT middle and long champs, Ricky claimed 4th and 3rd place respectively with Todd and David taking the wins.  Australian

Cameron and IanThe last two weekends the National Championship carnival has been hosted by ACT Orienteering Association.

The Carnival encompassed the Australian Sprint, Middle Distance and Long Distance Championships plus the Relays. During the week the Australian School Individual and Relay Championships.

The WA Team performed well over the week’s competitions and with consistent performances Cameron Duncan, in Senior Boys, was selected as a member of the Australian 2013 Honour Team. Well Done Cameron.

September 7: UWA event cancelled

The special event programmed earlier in the year to be held at the University of Western Australia has been cancelled.

Be Active Metro Series Finale

The final event in the 2012/13 Series will be held this Saturday, at the usual time of 5.00pm, at Jabe Dodd Park, Mosman Park.  

Registration will be open from around 4.15pm, and a briefing for beginners will be conducted at around 4.45pm, before a mass start at 5.00pm. After the event, at around 6.15pm the overall Series awards will be presented, so bring your dinner and stay for a riverside picnic!

Final Series Results

The final event of the 2012 - 2103 Be Active Metro Series was held on Saturday 23rd February at Mosman Park.

Congratulations to all the winners of the varous classes and to the overall Short, Medium and Long course winners; Ricky Thackray who dominated on the long course, the medium course was won by Lee Holliday and the win on the short course went to WOW club junior Kellie Martin.
