The assembly area is at Point Reserve on the Swan River, where you can enjoy a cooling dip and BBQ after your run.

Due to the BOM detailed forecast predicting the temperature at 5pm will still be 37 degrees it has been decided the event tonight will be non competitive and course distances will be reduced. This means there will be no official timing, no series points awarded and no mass start.
The Maylands Metro Series event starts from Clarkson Reserve which is lovely shady, grassy park with beautiful views of the Swan River. The area would make an ideal spot for a post event...

Do you orienteer for fun rather than to seriously compete?

If so, then the Sledge Class is for you.
It doesn't matter if you're not interested in competition, you think you're unfit, too old or recovering from an injury.
Keep the fun in your run and enjoy sledging your rivals over the rest of the SOL events (that's the remaining Championship events) in OWA's Tour de SOL.
Class winners must agree to wear the boxers for the next SOL event and then hand them over to the class winners at the end....

What is orienteering?
Orienteering is a sport for all ages and abilities. Children, adults, families and groups can enjoy some exercise and a fun outdoor challenge, while at the top end of the field elite athletes can race against tough competition up to an international level.
Some may walk, others may run. There are no fixed rules on how to get round the course - just aim to find the controls in order for your course.
A compass may be of assistance but orienteering is about reading the map...

The 2020 camp was held at Swan Valley Adventure Centre from 4-6 July.
15 juniors and a team of coaches spent the weekend learning new orienteering skills and having a great time bonding. As orienteering involves skills other than just running, there were plenty of fun challenges for them to do. Check out the photos on Facebook.
A full write up of the event is in O Xpress (August edition).

Events will be happening this weekend as planned. We have extended the Eventor registration period until 12 noon on Saturday for the MetrO event in Perth so that as many people as possible can register in advance.
The maps are printed and we have a tent organised as rain is expected. Unfortunately the tent is for the benefit of the computer rather than orienteers - social distancing requirements mean that you can't shelter in the tent. Sorry.
Everyone needs to have a mask with them to wear...

The first event of the Metro season is in Thornlie on the banks of the gently flowing Canning River in all its leafy goodness. You can explore the river, pat the ducks, feed the fishes or go exploring the streets looking for controls if you'd rather do that instead.
The map is almost dead flat unless you decide to roll off an embankment into the river, but that can be easily avoided. In fact, the only real hill of any note is in the...
