The final sprint event in the Summer Sprint Series saw a return to Gosnells Pioneer Park and Civic Centre with 80 participants enjoying a pleasant evening run in mild conditions around the parklands and bush areas. Series prizes were awarded after the event as a culmination of the (brief) series with best two of three events counting towards the total.

The last MetrO event for the 2024-2025 series was a success with 77 finishers. The starting location, Troy Park, was at the end of a long skinny map with mostly straight streets. However, the competitors were still challenged with choosing the best route choice.

As this was the last event of the 2024-2025 MetrO series, the placegetters for the overall MetrO 2024-2025 Series were announced after the event.

Now that the election is over, the polls have decided that the public wants more bush sprints! Located conveniently right next to Roe Hwy in Beckenham, Mills Park will have you voting for more. The park features both recreational and active reserves, intricate pathways, play areas, open runnable (and not so runnable) bush, a lake, and next to no climb (unless you fall into the dry creek and have to clamber out).

The National Orienteering League, known as NOL, is Australia’s premier elite domestic competition with 3-4 rounds held in the Autumn season. It is primarily a team competition with individuals racing to gain points for their state team. The Western Nomads are our WA representatives.

Western Australia will be hosting a NOL round event on 8-9th March, 2025. The program consists of a middle distance bush event, and three sprint events. Besides elite races, there...

A hot early afternoon was soothed by a brisk sea breeze on Butlers Reserve last Saturday, in time for the mass start which saw competitors set out almost equally in three different directions, all up hill!

Over 100 people took part, with more newcomers than usual, 22 in groups and 17 solo ‘Casuals’, who we hope will come back for more next week and onwards.

Come and challenge yourself at the tenth MetrO event at Attadale, while enjoying the river views around Troy Park, and perhaps a swim or a picnic afterwards?

Metro 8 - Edgewater was a fantastic event, offering a mix of big cliffs, sandy and limestone rock paths, and even some bush running—right in suburbia! It was great to see a strong turnout, including several newcomers eager to take on the challenge.

Come and test your navigation skills at the summer season's last sprint event at Gosnells! The map area features Gosnells council building and gardens, Canning River, shopping centre (generally not used), swamps (typically dry at this time of year), bushland areas and boardwalks. Some tracks in bushland areas may be unpaved and sandy.

24-27 January 2025

The camp at Camp Quaranup was attended by 13 juniors from Friday to Monday over the long weekend. Though we had lower numbers due to several families travelling, it gave us all time to meet the new faces, who fitted in easily, adding to the sense of a community with similar interests. In the little spare time, juniors were playing cars, chatting, playing ball games or exploring the Camp area.

The seventh event of the 2024-25 MetrO Series started from Ferndale Park and took competitors through the streets of Bannister Creek and into the edge of the riverside bushland. With many looping roads and alleyways there were many route choices and different directions to consider.

Come and explore the residential areas around Butlers Reserve in Scarborough. There is also some parkland to the south of the map.

The Summer Series Sprint 2 Orienteering Race, held at Shenton College, brought together nearly 100 participants for an exciting afternoon of sprint orienteering. The beautiful summer weather provided the perfect backdrop for competitors of all ages and experience levels, including many first-timers and family groups, to navigate their way through the school grounds.

Come join us at Edgewater for this season's newest map and enjoy the distinctive topography that this area entails. The map features bush tracks, many parks, a couple of schools and of course the lakeside that the suburb was named for. Most importantly, and what differentiates this urban map from all the others, are the impressively high limestone cliffs that are the main feature of the area.

The sixth event of the 2024-25 MetrO Series and the first event of the new year started from the Swanbourne Cricket Club with competitors exploring the parks, streets and beachfront of coastal Swanbourne and Cottesloe. A wide variety of options from the start meant competitors left in all directions, and led to a large range of route choices with a large range of distances.

The next event in the MetrO series is Bannister Creek. The area features residential areas with many connecting alleyways and riverside bushland. Some tracks in bushland areas may be unpaved and sandy.

Pre-entry is preferred and will be available via Eventor until 4pm on Saturday, January 18th.
