Wireless Hill Reserve, Ardross

Once again high temperatures threatened to curtail this event, but fortunately the sea breeze came in and the conditions, although still pretty warm, were acceptable. Bunbury Summer Camp

Summer camp this year was held at the Eaton Scout Camp near Bunbury from Friday 14th to Monday 17th January, with 23 juniors and 11 coaches and parents participating. Two 12-seater buses were used to ferry the juniors around Australind and Bunbury. It was great to see six new juniors at this camp: Hunter, Elena, Neve, Quinn, Christopher and Elianna.

Jones Paskin Reserve, Jones St, Balcatta

The sea breeze arrived just in time to declare the event “on” as it brought the temperature down to 36 °C at start time and it provided some cooling for the duration of the event. Despite the short notice 57 people, including several groups of novices, arrived to navigate the deceptively simple-looking street layout of Balcatta. Bob Gordon Reserve, Bull Creek

Sixty seven people attended the MetrO event at Bull Creek, enjoying a cool evening around the suburb and the bushland of Bull Creek catchment wetlands.

Duncan Sullivan was fastest around the short course and Oliver Martin was the first home on the medium. Kuljak (Black Swan Island), Ascot

The first NavDash event for 2022 will take place on Kuljak (also known as Black Swan Island) in Ascot. A NavDash is designed as a sprint event with short courses. In the centre of the island is a large grassed area, while on the edge of the island you'll find wetlands and swamps full of birdlife.

Bob Gordon Reserve, Benningfield Rd, Bull Creek

This is a new map of the northern part of Bull Creek (Gabbiljee) that includes a small part of the previous Bull Creek MetrO map. Runners on the short course will be able to complete most of their course within parks but will need to cross one busy 50 kph road (Benningfield Road).

Herdsman Lake Discovery Centre, North end Selby St, Wembley

Join us for a pleasant run in the parkland around the southern part of Herdsman Lake. The Discovery Centre will be open from 4 pm and orienteers are welcome to spend time at the wildlife exhibits.

The Applecross map was last used seven years ago and has been updated for this event. This year's assembly area is at Jeff Joseph Reserve, a very scenic spot on the river foreshore. The reserve has shady picnic spots and BBQs and is only 500m from the popular Applecross Village Cafe Strip.

Dianella Regional Open Space, Number 3 OvalOff Morley Drive, Dianella

Dianella Regional Open Space is a large reserve comprising extensive bushland, three ovals and play areas. The short course is entirely within the reserve, while the longer courses include quiet streets and parks within Dianella.

Ferndale Park, Dampier Way, Ferndale

Join us for a pleasant run in the parkland around Ferndale. The course will take participants around Bannister Creek and Canning River Regional Park. Expect to get sand in your shoes and have an up-close look at Canning River.

Brown Park Recreation & Community Centre, Salisbury Road, Swan View

Head east to the Darling Range foothills and explore the suburb of Swan View. Find some of the thirty controls scattered on the flatter part of the map. Participants on the longer courses will visit the area next to the railway heritage trail.

Willetton Playgroup, 6 Kingfisher Loop, Willetton

The MetrO series continues with the Burrendah event, south of the river.

The Burrendah map is part of the undulating suburb of Willetton. It offers many parks with connecting laneways, making for enjoyable running. Come and enjoy the courses set by Kate Braid. The assembly area is on the grounds of the Willetton Playgroup. Parking is available at the playgroup and along Apsley Road.

Carine Senior High School, Osmaston Road, Carine

Come and enjoy the final event of the winter orienteering season. The previously postponed WA State Sprint Championships are being held on a new map covering the compact grounds of Carine Senior High School.
Pre-entry is required for Championship courses. Championship entries are now closed

Everyone is welcome to participate, including beginners. Two EOD (enter on the day) courses will be available after Championship entrants have started.

Banyowla Regional Park, Martin

This is the last scheduled MTBO event for 2021. Come along to Banyowla Regional Park in Martin (just up the hill from Gosnells) to enjoy some bush riding, with some steep sections in the longer courses. The assembly area will be the Kaarakin Black Cockatoo Centre.

Everyone is welcome to participate including beginners and instruction will be provided. So come enjoy your Sunday morning out on the trails!
