Sat 29th June - Mon 1st July

Swan Valley Adventure Centre

Our popular junior camp will be held over two days and two nights at the start of the July School holidays. Led by a team of OWA coaches (plus Jiri and Veronika, our Czech coaches in residence), it will provide activities on site and training on a bush map, as well as attending the OWA event at Yetar Spring.

We are looking for young people who enjoy orienteering, want to learn more about it and have a fun time with other young people! ...

Mt Billy SE

Nearly 80 participants made their way out to Mt Billy SE for the third bush event of the season. Courses saw competitors criss-crossing a relatively small area that varied from open and fast running to somewhat frustratingly thick and prickly scrub.

Bayswater (Mooro Beeloo)

A nice fine autumn morning set the scene for the intrepid cyclists who gathered at Riverside Gardens, Bayswater for the first event on the new Mooro Beeloo map. While there had been some predictions earlier in the week of showers they had all bypassed Perth and no inclement conditions marked the day.

Entires were slightly up from previous events and 41 entrants went out on the score event to locate as many as possible of the 70 control sites spread over the map in the

Walliabup Skate Park, Bibra Lake

A lovely sunny morning greeted 35 riders for the first MTBO event of the season, a mixed urban/urban-bushland map based around Bibra Lake. The map had been extended up to South St, including Murdoch Uni, SJoG and a bit more suburbia, so that we weren’t using the exact same area again.

Carine Senior High School

On a splendid autumn day Carine Senior High School hosted the fourth instalment of the NavDash Sprint Orienteering Series, drawing over 90 enthusiastic participants. Amidst the vibrant atmosphere, multiple competitors were tested across multiple levels in multiple locations on a dynamic three-dimensional map.

SWAC, Middle Swan

Looking for adventure? NavDash 5 heads into the Swan Valley, to the Swan Valley Adventure Centre. Explore the grounds of the centre, with tight navigation around the buildings and fast running through the more open areas. Suited for all levels, including beginners & families.

As a bonus, we’ll be running a ‘Super Sprint’ course on top of the usual courses. This is a very short, hard-standard course that you can run in addition to your usual course.

Garvey Park, Belmont

Ninety nine orienteers enjoyed competing on a beautiful morning at Garvey Park on a map recently upgraded by Ricky Thackray.

MJ Morgan Park, Glen Forrest

After two Metro score events, this is a return to traditional bush line events, with 3 different length hard navigation courses in outer metropolitan suburbs surrounding the Railway Heritage Trail, and adjacent forest to the south.

An Easy course, that mainly follows the Heritage Trail, is also provided and is especially suited for beginners. The start area at "the train Park" is family friendly, with shelters, BBQs and a playground.

Wundabiniring

A crisp autumn morning greeted the orienteers at Wundabiniring on Sunday. Some mid-week rain had settled the dust and softened the ground making for very enjoyable orienteering conditions.

Just over 90 people went out on the range of courses, with distances set to a standard mindful of this being an early bush event. Those who wished to stretch their legs and get back into bush running could head north around the gullies, while a short hard course offered a navigation challenge

Mt Billy SE

This area was mapped some years ago and hence, the vegetation (both yellow and green) should be interpreted accordingly. The terrain varies from open wandoo to scrappy and scratchy thicker vegetation. Full body cover, especially leg protection is highly recommended. Some recent changes to motorbike tracks have been mapped, but there may still be some unmapped tracks – especially west of Ball Rd, which only impacts H1 competitors.

Riverside Gardens, Milne St

This is a new and different area with a bit of everything for everybody. We have some excellent views of the river from both sides now. Ride around scenic Bayswater, delightful Ashfield, the vistas of Ascot and highlights of Maylands – explore the bike path, tracks and back streets, cross bridges, venture into parks and bush reserves, and check out the sites of former rubbish dumps now graced with delightful multistorey units and recreational parks.

Jorgensen Park, Kalamunda

The opening event of the 2024 Bush orienteering season was held as a ‘Simple’ event at Jorgensen Park (Kalamunda), under beautiful sunny skies and with temperatures reaching the mid-20s. Originally the event was going to be held at John Forrest NP, but extensive on-going works at the usual tavern assembly area, and heavy undergrowth in the western part of the map saw the event moved at late notice to Jorgensen Park.

South of Mount Observation

Welcome back to Wundabiniring Brook

With gentle contours and some good rock detail this is a great area for runnable orienteering. As just the second bush event for the 2024 season the courses will be towards the shorter lengths but still provide some very good navigational and physical challenges.
