Mardalup Park, Brown Street, East Perth

The first event of 2023 will be held in Claisebrook / Goongoongup. Come and enjoy the riverside in East Perth and explore the lanes and parks in the area.

The map includes part of the highly developed residential area of East Perth, a narrow strip of riverside parkland, some commercial streets, older suburbia and the East Perth power station (which is under redevelopment and out of bounds).

Lake Jualbup, Shenton Park

There was a good turnout for the 6th MetrO event of the season with over 100 people going out on course. Competitors navigated around the grid of streets and laneways of Shenton Park and some of Subiaco. There were some issues with the splits printer early on, but it all got sorted out eventually.

Rossmoyne Park, Central Road, Rossmoyne

It was a lovely sunny afternoon when over 80 people navigated the streets and riverside paths in Rossmoyne. The event was held at Rossmoyne Park, containing large sections of Rossmoyne and Shelley foreshore.

Kyilla Park, Union St, North Perth

Setter Tony Simpkins discovered the large number of laneways behind North Perth's regular street grid while using Bryce Crage's Suburb Run course in the area, and so he set the courses using the laneways as a theme.

Lake Jualbup, Shenton Park

Lake Jualbup is abundant with bird life and has long neck turtles in the lake. Close to the assembly area there are free BBQs, children's playground, basketball ring and plenty of grassed area for frisbee or ball games. Why not bring a picnic to enjoy afterwards?

Rossmoyne Park, Central Road, Rossmoyne

The Rossmoyne map follows the southern bank of the Canning River and Bull Creek. Come along to enjoy the winding river-side parks and leafy streets that offer great scenery and interesting navigation.

Canning Vale Oval, The Ramble, Canning Vale

Over 70 competitors participated in the 3rd MetrO event of the season, winding through the green streets and parkland of Canning Vale. Unfortunately some competitors had the extra challenge of finding a control which had been buried by local jokers in the playground sandpit as well as another control where the SI unit was not working. Despite these issues, feedback from people was generally positive and review of routes on Livelox shows the variety

Whiteman Park

A pleasant morning greeted the nearly 90 orienteers who gathered at Whiteman Park on Sunday 13th November to celebrate a successful year of orienteering. The very attractive 2023 Carnival Banners promoting the National Orienteering Championships that WA is hosting here in late September next year made a very fine backdrop both to our perpetual trophies and yearly awards and for photos taken of trophy winners.

Woodlake Village Community Centre, Ellenbrook

Riley McFarlane and Matt Seward hosted the second MetrO event for 2022-23 at Ellenbrook. Updating the map was very challenging for various reasons, but the end result was an arena that should be the gold standard for all MetrO events from now on.

Canning Vale Oval, The Ramble, Canning Vale

This map of Canning Vale has not been used for some years and will provide an enjoyable challenge winding through the quiet, leafy streets and parkland of Canning Vale.

Kyilla Park, Union St, North Perth

The North Perth map comprises an older, inner-city urban area bounded by Walcott St to the north, Charles St to the west, Vincent St in the south and Fitzgerald St on the east. There are several small parks, two primary schools, shops, restaurants and small industrial premises.

Yuluma Primary School, Innaloo

The first event for the 2022/23 Metro Season was held at Yuluma Primary School and heavily advertised by Archie (via posters and PA announcements at the School) and on Facebook with many sharing the post. I'll estimate the success of this advertising by how many new faces were present, lots - but the Marketing people can quantify.

Woodlake Village Community Centre, Ellenbrook

Enjoy exploring the suburb of Ellenbrook at the second event of the 2022-23 MetrO Series. There are out-of-bounds areas on the map - please do not enter. Some Short & Medium course routes and all Long course routes require you to cross Pinaster Parade, a busy road, so be very careful when crossing.

Murray Valley

Continuing with what is now tradition - the MTBO season pushing into October - we finally got to have the WA MTBO Long Champs. With the bridge repaired and the river crossing not flooded, riders finally got to enjoy Murray Valley South on a new map made by Duncan Sullivan. Lots of fast purpose-built mountain bike trails and one-way systems all made for a good long distance with plenty of route choice.

Saturday 15th - Sunday 16th October, 2022

Mt Elphinstone

On the Saturday afternoon twenty five people, including fifteen from Perth, took part in the event at Mt Elphinstone set by Tony Whittaker. The courses were carefully designed so that it was possible to avoid the darkest green parts of the map if you utilised the tracks. It was a small, interesting map which included cliffs, large rock surfaces, some climbs, thick vegetation and a network of tracks, some of them rather vague. A map flip
