The start of the new year and the first Metro event of 2018 is on a new map, drawn by Metro Series Co-ordinator Ricky Thackray, and shaped like a kite! That alone is worth a visit, if the various lakes and Ricky’s infamous tRicky course setting style(s) aren’t enough to whet your interest. What will he do this time?

Lake Gwelup Reserve, Huntriss Rd, Gwelup.
Another of our many lake maps but with many waterways and urban bushland to run in this area has plenty to offer. Using the Score format it will give you plenty of time to explore the map, making the most of the 60 minute time limit with the potential to cover much of the area.

Come to City Beach for a walk, jog, run or cycle along some fantastic and picturesque surf and turf. This area is a long term favourite beachside map incorporating the snug area between the ocean and the highway. Make the most of the evening sea breeze and have a picnic by the shore, enjoying the popular redeveloped beachfront either before or after the event.

This, new for the 2018 Season Metro map, was made by first time Metro mapper and long time orienteer Dave Pass. You'll be able to take in the scenery along the riverside with extensive foreshore parklands and flat suburban terrain as you collect your control points.

Swanbourne Primary School, Narla Rd, Swanbourne
The final beachside event of the year so make the most of the surf, sand and hills! Explore Lake Claremont, Swanbourne Reserve, or take in the coastal panorama from the top of Melon Hill.
Controls will be worth 10, 20 and 30 points which will add a twist to the route planning as you will need to decide if going a little further to chase higher points is worth the reward.

Explore beside the river, including both sides of Kwinana Freeway, Canning River/Bull Creek Western foreshore, Blue Gum Lake and Booragoon Lake.

The first event of the season is a popular map with a new start location. All courses will include the lake with the longer courses crossing the freeway to include the urban areas of Leederville. Given its proximity to Halloween, there will be fun games for the kids!

This is a newly mapped area, with the map made by Metro Series Co-ordinator Ricky Thackray. The area provides plenty of variety as it includes bushland with a trail network, urban streets and large park areas in the east. Parking is limited so please carpool if possible and park on the verge along the north side of the park – you may have to walk to get to the start.

This year's camp will be held in Bullsbrook from 1 to 3 July.
The Junior Camp is Orienteering WA's major training camp of the year for 10-17 year old orienteers and is held over the July school holidays. Run by our accredited coaches the camp provides for a wide range of orienteering abilities.

Metro Series returns 6th January 2018
We wish all orienteers and their families a happy and relaxed break over Christmas and New Year.
The Metro Series starts its second half of the season on Saturday 6th January at Ranford with a scatter event, 5pm mass start. We look forward to seeing you all there you kick off the orienteering year.

A large contingent of West Australian orienteers headed to Bathurst, New South Wales for this highlight of the orienteering year. With seven events in nine days it’s a great festival of Orienteering, including the Australian Schools Championships.

WA schools team will be heading off to New South Wales to be part of the Australian Orienteering Carnival 2017.
They will be representing Western Australia at the Australian Schools Championship events as well as taking part in the national championship events. The carnival will take in seven events between 23 September and 1 October 2017 near Bathurst and Hill End, NSW.
The team has been training hard and we wish them every success.

All Metro series events will be Saturday afternoons for the 2017/2018 Series with registration from 4.15pm and start times from 5pm. Courses will close at 6.15pm.
