Owen Avenue, Falcon
Keep your wheels rolling in April with an urban mountain bike orienteering event exploring Falcon. On a new map situated on the estuary side of Old Coast Road, the area is almost totally flat and takes in relaxing paths alongside the estuary, conservation reserve and suburbia. NavDash returns to a complex school campus with courses to suit all abilities. The Three Poppies (Daisy, Christine and Rosie) hope to see you at John Curtin as you test your orienteering on a granular* map and have a go in their Anzac Day-themed competitions for a chance to win awesome prizes!
*Granular - in normal speak this means there are lots of buildings, stairs, gates, walkways and gardens to negotiate on your course.

The NavDash series continues at Garvey Park, with some wide-open spaces in contrast to the intricate detail of last weeks venue John Curtin College of the Arts. Bring everyone, including the dog, and have a run around one of Perth’s excellent riverside parks. There is even a cafe at the park for your post-run coffee requirements.

Edmund Rice College, near Bundoon
KO welcomes you to the first bush event for the season at Edmund Rice College (previously Catholic Agricultural College), Bindoon. The map encompasses jarrah and wandoo forest, granite, and spur and gully terrain and as we haven’t used the area for some time it will be like a new map to some of you.
Registration: 9.00am – 11.00am

Pechey Road, Jane Brook, Swan View
NavDash returns to the bush for this event, so think creeks instead of buildings, and rocks instead of stairs. The area is fast and open, with plenty of detail to keep you thinking. The recent rain means the grass is green, so it’s a perfect time to enjoy competing in this bush area on the edge of metropolitan Perth.

near Beverley
Orienteering returns to this beautiful rocky ridge, south-west of Beverley. The terrain is open and fast, but steep in parts, which makes good route choices essential. Magnificent granite boulders, cliffs and rock surfaces are complemented by panoramic views. A full suite of courses are available in this traditional-style bush event.

Walyunga Road, Walyunga National Park
Jumbuck Hill is a great orienteering area not too far from the city. It has some steep slopes which are offset by amazing views. Granite rocks provide some complex navigation especially in areas where the visibility is reduced by the large number of grass trees. Leg protection should be worn.

This event is set near the start of the splendid Bibbulman Track and the family friendly Jorgensen Park. Previously known as Pre-Frazzle, this challenging area consists of grazed paddock with very little undergrowth. Parts are quite steep and rocky. It is ideal for middle-distance courses with plenty of granite detail. The property is owned by Grant Hobbs who has generously provided access on several occasions.

LOST hosts the event at this beautiful bush map with a mix of gullies and rock, and sprinkling of grass trees. This is classic Helena Valley orienteering and spring is a perfect time to enjoy the area. A range of courses will be available to suit all abilities and ages, with five hard navigation courses covering a variety of distances, plus moderate, easy and very easy course options.

Lovers Lane, near Toodyay
Lover's Lane is 10km south west of Toodyay and consists of spur-gully terrain with widespread shallow quarrying and diggings, surrounded by typical WA granite detail, farmland and some laterite breakaways. The map is complex but courses suitable for all ages and abilities are available.

Training Weekend 3-5th March 2018
OWA is pleased to be hosting Charlotte Watson, an orienteer from the UK who has represented Great Britain at the JWOC and WOC as a visiting coach. This is to provide all our members with the chance to reap the benefits of coaching, some intensive training and ultimately improve their orienteering and enjoyment of the sport.
Charlotte has put together a three day program that will help build and test your sprint orienteering skills.
