When one event is not enough!
This weekend you’ll have a chance to leap back into the NavDash at Curtin University as well as enjoy the final Metro Series event, putting your score event skills to the test in Mt Claremont. Sharp quick decisions are needed for the NavDash while considered route planning pays off for score events. Both events will work your orienteering brain and keep you on the move.

The second NavDash outing for 2017 is on a Sunday morning, taking advantage of a brand new map at John Curtin College of the Arts. There will be plenty of navigational challenges including some small areas of bush next to the school coupled with the school grounds.
The location is close to the many Fremantle coffee shops, perfect for an après-run fix and you’ll be ready to enjoy the OWA Annual General Meeting that will follow immediately after the event.

This is the final summer series event for the 2016/17 series and will follow the score format through the complex street network of Mount Claremont and Graylands Hospital. Don’t forget this is on Sunday morning so don’t be late. Take note of the registration and start time windows and don’t forget your watch and your e-tag, if you have one, as electronic timing will be in use.

NavDash returns for 2017 at one of Perth’s most popular campus maps, with a Saturday afternoon event at Curtin University kicking things off.
NavDash are short distance (2-3.5kms), line courses where controls must be visited in the numerical order shown for each course, making the most of the complex buildings and passages of a university campus. The hard courses are navigationally challenging while the easy course is more suitable for novices and children.

Weekly training is available in Perth based in two areas, one west and one east of the city. Training in the west is on Thursday evenings and in the east on Friday evenings, so if you are super keen you can get in two training sessions a week! All sessions run from 5.30-6.30pm.

On Saturday 19th November 100 OWA members put on their finest and gathered to celebrate the year that was, celebrating the athletic achievements of all ages of Orienteers and acknowledging the volunteers who made such an effort to run our sport in 2016.
Photo shows, Championship and Orienteer of the Year presentations, the 2016 Volunteer Awards plus a Quiz, (Questions and Answers ) all made for a great evening.

A hard fought battle across the three rounds of the National Mountain Bike Orienteering Championships held in Dwellingup over the weekend saw WA triumphant over strong Vic, NSW and Qld competition to win the state shield for the first time in ten years. The last time we won the shield was also on home soil in 2006. WA riders overwhelmed the competition in the sprint and middle distance events although Victoria fought back to win the long event but not enough to take the trophy. Congratulations to

Training for all members who want to be involved starts this week in two different locations. You don’t have to be aspiring to make a state team to enjoy getting fitter, improving navigation skills, and the camaraderie of a group with common goals.
East group:
Tuesday 24th, Woodbridge Park, Midland, 5.30pm
West group:
Thursday 26th (Australia Day), south end Lake Monger, 8.30am.
In future the East group will Fridays and the West group, Thursdays, both starting at 5.30pm.

Head to Gilbert Fraser Reserve, Johannah St, North Fremantle on Sunday morning, 12th March, for a classic "between river and sea” scatter event. You’ll discover parts of North Fremantle you have never seen before, including Harvey Beach, Cypress Hill, Buckland Hill and its old world war two gun emplacements. There is plenty of river frontage to explore and cliff-top vistas to soak up.

With only the final event at North Fremantle to go, the Metro Series Category Awards have arrived at the pointy edge!
There are several classes where the current standings can change at North Fremantle, and two classes where people need to run in order to have completed 8 events.
The Open Men (Long Course) prizewinners are decided, their positions cannot change. On the Medium Course, in Veteran Women, Sharon McFarlane, currently in 6th position, could leapfrog those ahead of her into 2nd
