Date: Sunday 21 October 2018
Location: Leeming Senior High School, Aulberry Parade, Leeming
One last chance for 2018 to run around like a headless chook on a new sprint map. Three courses, no control descriptions – pure mayhem. On the back of the inaugural event last year, the Ultra-Sprint returns, this time to Leeming Senior High School. A brand new map with plenty of opportunities to get yourself mislocated and maybe end up in a Year 8 Maths class!

Metro Series: 13th January 2018
Timing is everything when juggling collecting the most number of points in a fixed amount of time. Score Events add an extra degree of difficulty on a metro map, with the goal to score the most points in a fixed time. Being late back, in this case over the hour, loses you 10 of those hard-earned points for each minute you are late.
At the Gwelup Score event, Oliver Martin had the highest score of those not on the bike, with 530 points in a time of 59:59 using...

A big crowd or orienteers descended on City Beach Saturday afternoon and, just like the kite surfers, they were flying around the course. Bike riders, runners, joggers and walkers had a great time as they explored the renovated city beach foreshore. Well done to all who participated.
It was a long day for the setter, Natasha Sparg, who got herself lost this afternoon! A typical WA day at the beach with the hot sun, soft sand and cool seabreeze addled her brains....

Despite the rumour that the setter was using Google street view in place of a site visit Cameron Duncan did, actually, visit Lake Joondalup before the event rather than use technology!
And it was a worthwhile planning and checking trip as he did a great job setting with lots of controls close to the start sending a big group of Orienteers in all directions at Wanneroo Lakeside.
Sten Claessens, on the long course tried to beat the bike riders home and only missed...

After a hot and humid afternoon the sea breeze arrived just in time for close to a hundred orienteers to enjoy the first event on the Shelley Foreshore reserve.
Apart from a swarm of bees that descended on the start area at the during the setup and then moved off to hang around control 20 everyone enjoyed the area and the courses that they chose (maybe!).
Thanks go to Dave Pass, Wendy Hobley, John and Jenny Major, Sten Claessens, Heike Behrbohm, Cameron Duncan,...

he last Metro score event for the series saw a strong turn out with a crowd of around 100 people enjoying the slight(!) hills, the cooling sea breeze and comparing route choices at the challenging Swanbourne score event.
From locals giving orienteering a go to international visitors on foot or on bike there was something for everyone. BO and LOST also had their AGM’s pre and post event, while a survey was conducted to gain some feedback on score events, yesterday’s...

One of the more pleasant ways to explore Perth is with a map in hand at the Metro Series, as orienteers discovered at Mt Pleasant on Saturday afternoon. River views, lakes and parks all featured on the map. Keen orienteers parked up to 2kms away, while several rode their bikes to get to the Mt Pleasant Metro Series event.
The orienteers were rewarded by an interesting new Simmo map, with courses taking in a steep hill and three wetland areas. Alex Tarr from...

Clear blues perfect skies and warm temperatures greeted participants for the final MetrO event of 2017 - 2018 at the delightful Bayswater Riverside Gardens, in what was the last chance to make improvements to overall standings & snare a top 3 finish.
Those who kept close to the river benefitted from the easterly breeze, whereas those who took to the streets found the going a little tougher. The Bayswater map combined parks, lakes, swamp land, roads & laneways,...
