Swan Valley
Jumbuck Ridge is a great area close to Perth with beautiful views over the city and the Swan Valley. The streams are flowing and the bush is very pleasant at this time of year. The hard and moderate courses are mostly downhill as the start is 75 m higher than the finish, while the E and VE course remain at lower altitude. Enjoy a picnic after the event near the roaring rapids.

Pickering Brook
Fine weather and dust (but not mud) free tracks greeted nearly 40 riders and runners to the north east corner of tRicky’s monster Carinyah MTBO map. A lot of earthworks by the authorities trying to keep out 4WDrivers et al added to the usual challenges in our forests (exposed laterite, fallen timber and gumnuts, etc) but all emerged unscathed, professing enjoyment and with some close run contests and winning times fairly close to the guidelines.

Off Great Eastern Highway, near the Lakes
Drizzle, more drizzle and then the rain. Other than that, everyone appeared to have a good time. This area provided mostly open running that was responsible for quick course times, and opportunities for some longer legs interspersed with short sharp clusters for a bit of both long and short course practice. Every course had close finishes that showed that at this time of the year, with championships and the relays in the offing, a sense of...

Granite Heights, Albany
Sunshine and blue skies surprisingly appeared for the Granite Heights event in Albany on Sunday 26th June. This partially completed map was mostly cattle paddocks but with some low-lying blue gums and marshy native vegetation plus some small granite outcrops which made it a perfect area for a local club full of beginner orienteers. Even on the Hard courses competitors were never far from great big features.

The Calophylla Long State Series event had an attendance of 78 brave souls who made it past the puddles and eroded tracks to arrive at the assembly area.
