oscarandmarketaThe first two events of the Australian Championships were held this weekend and WA has had seven wins, our best ever national performance away from home.

At both the Sprint and Long Distance champs WA scored a stunning double header in the 17-20 junior elites with Oscar McNulty (LOST) and Marketa Novotna (LOST) taking the national champion titles in M20E and W20E.

We are also pleased to confirm the camping arrangements for the event have been finalised.  Accommodation in Bendigo is already heavily booked for the Easter weekend so this provides an exclusive, low cost option for orienteers.  To book accommodation select the Service for camping in the 3-day event within Eventor.

At the OAWA Annual Dinner and volunteer appreciation night the Orienteer of the Year awards were announced.

Based on performance over the year at designated State Orienteering League events, covering sprint, middle and long distance events, the awards recognise the performance and achievements in these events ranked and adjusted across age groups. This year some very close contests ensured.

There are six SOL events for the year and the best four scores count towards each competitor's total

The MetrO Series is on again. The first event of twelve events in the series. Orienteering is a fun way to get fit and practise orienteering skills. It is open to both walkers and runners.

No special equipment is needed, just turn up in your sneakers and comfortable clothing for walking or running. You will be able to enter at the event. You don’t need to be a club member, just turn up and enjoy the day out.

Part of the Be Active Mountain Bike Orienteering series the Middle Distance and the Long Distance 2013 State Mountain Bike Championship are now open for entries. Entries for the Mountain bike events close Sunday 14 July 2013 while the final sprint event for the year is the WA Sprint Championships on August 10 and entries close for this event on Monday 3 August 2013. To be part of the Championship competition you'll need to pre-enter so come along and enjoy.

This week the annual Be Active Schools Orienteering Championships is being held at Jorgensen Park, Kalamunda on Wednesday 19th June. With just over 1000 primary and secondary school children entered in the event it is by far the largest Orienteering event of the year in Western Australia. To all those taking part we hope you enjoy this popular event.
