Orienteering memberships cover a calendar year from 1 January to 31 December. People wishing to  take advantage of discounted entry fees and other privileges of being a member need to renew memberships for 2014 or become a member.

First MTBO event for 2014
Banyowla - Sunday 23rd March 2014

The first Mountain Bike orienteering event for the year will be held in bushland in the Kelmscott/Martin area of the Perth hills. This is a great area to get on your bike,hit the hills and hone those navigational skills.

Joondalup Learning Precinct, Saturday 8th March

Urban orienteering continues with the first of the NavDash sprint orienteering events at West Coast Institute of Training (WCIT). NavDash is very suitable for beginners, but differs from the Metro Series in that events are in the more traditional format with 'line' courses and interval starting. Line courses feature a set number of control points that must be visited in a certain order, with participants starting at one or two minute intervals

Henry and Oscar McNulty at Brisbane Sprint Presentations

The WA Nomads elite orienteering team, represented by West Leederville brothers Oscar and Henry McNulty, was very successful at the first National Orienteering League events for 2014, held in Brisbane over the weekend. On Saturday Oscar and Henry, who are both still Juniors, finished a close 2nd overall to the ACT team of Lachlan Dow and Ian Lawford in the sprint relay event, beating several older and more experienced teams.

NavDash 8 March - Joondalup
The first of the NavDash events for 2014 will be at Joondalup Learning Precinct. A NavDash event is a short course on a complex map such as a university campus. Navigation is relatively easy but can be tricky when running at full speed. Fast, furious and fun!

Mullalloo

The final MetrO Series event for the 2013/2014 season will start from Charonia Park, Mullalloo on Saturday 22nd February. The competition will be on a new map by Ricky Thackray, and will decide the overall Series categories.

The event is of course very suitable for beginners and no previous orienteering experience is necessary, therefore members of the public are most welcome to come and try orienteering.

The booklet is 32 pages packed with useful information and lesson plans to provide teachers with ideas for developing their school orienteering program. The package includes a separate set of lesson plans devised by Mike Sibbald, a teacher and Level 1 Orienteering Coach.

Carine Regional Open Space

Event 8 in the 2013/2014 MetrO Series is in the NW Coastal suburbs, just 3.5kms from the beach.  With a 5pm start, the sea breeze should be in to create ideal conditions for the event.

MetrO Series events are 'enter on the day', with easy navigation and three distance options: Short 2-3kms, Medium 5-6kms and Long 7-8kms.  Registration will be open from 4.15pm, 45 minutes before the start time of 5.00pm.

EVENT CANCELLED

 

The scheduled Metro Orienteering Event at South Trigg, Trigg Beachon Saturday 11th Jan has been cancelled due to the extreme hot weather forecast.

OAWA has a policy to cover extreme weather events to protect both setters and orienteers. With a predicted 44 degree day and little or no sea breeze it is considered unsafe to hold the event.  We will look at options to re-schedule  the event and advise via the website and other means.
