Clouds and rain cleared to reveal blue skies and expansive hilltop views for the Umuna event. Open paddocks and dispersed woodland made for mostly unutilised fast conditions. Plodding orienteers and scattering roos shared the landscape.
Air gasping displays of poor post covid fitness levels were evident at the finish by those conscious they were being watched on the home straight. Much satisfaction was the sounding at the post race picnics.
As this was a State Orienteering League event, it was great to see members from SWOT and ADHOC there too.
Thanks go to Ricky Thackray for setting an entertaining number of controls to give the whole of BO a secondary navigational fix in control collection.
Thanks also to the one or two non BO'ers who helped out and to Helen Bailey for all the checks and oversight as Controller. Special thanks go to Rob Beattie, who despite injuries, fulfilled many setup and unloading tasks and Jack Dowling managed to distribute maps and oversee the starts with his arm still in a sling.
Thanks also to Melinda and Rosalie for computer operation, and control collectors: Sue and Jack, Phil and Penny, Craig and Rachel, Patrick and Michael, Hadrien and Ellie, Rob and Lois, Andrea and Moreen. Apologies if I've missed anyone.
