Sunday 19th July 2020 Family MTBO1

It was a chilly start in Karragullen for the first event in the restart program.

This was a combined MTBO/ Trail-O event, brought about as runners were turning up unofficially for MTBO events last year.  With the suggestion that there may be interest, we thought we'd give it a try.  The demand was certainly there.  While some were surprised to find the course lengths for the trail runs were the same as for the MTBO courses, they were not dispirited and a gathering of familiar faces, family groups and enthusiastic first timers provided a convivial atmosphere enjoyed by all.

As with all orienteering events, the success of the day was made possible by the efforts of the event setters and organisers - Debbie McKay and Graham Smith - and the team of helpers - both on the day and in the weeks prior. Special mention to Jack Dowling for his oversight and computer nous, Emma Plummer for her work behind the scenes, Ellie Sansom for her tutorship of first timers on the day, and Richard Begley for his consistent support.

This was certainly a successful reboot to the MTBO calendar with the next event scheduled for the 30 August. Thanks again to everyone who helped and attended.

Results are available here.

Photos from the event, thanks to Rob West and Sue Dowling, are on our Facebook page.
