The weather for this season's 5th NavRun event was ideal but the intermittent rain did come down hard every so often. The weather was not cold, and as a result, 60 attempted the three courses on offer. It was good to see families attending with their children in tow.
Bo Davie returned to orienteering and put in a solid performance. Also worth a mention were Grace and Lisa (two CAS runners) taking on the long course as individuals. Both have attended other NavRuns and run as a pair and their ability to step-up today proves the concept works.
First and foremost, sincere thanks to Jack Dowling for his patience and guidance helping me (the setter, Rob Beattie) with the setting and ensuring the (part completed) walkway, new car park and removal of the old tavern did not impede on the course planning. Some very minor changes still need to be done to make this area of the map complete, namely the full walkway when it’s finished and the completion of a minor track on the E side of the map.
Despite not being able to use the tracks north of the Heritage Trail (on the other side of the creek), Rob thought the courses planned presented some good challenges.

Just before we left the area, a chap stopped to say he had not been orienteering for over 20 years. He did not compete today, but has fond memories of Foot O and MTBO events, so we may have re-ignited something.
