The inaugural NavRun event was held at Bibra Lake on Sunday 12th April, marking the launch of a new event format designed to help newcomers develop their navigation skills in bush and parkland environments close to Perth.
The courses struck a reasonable balance — straightforward enough to be approachable for those new to the sport, while still providing some navigation challenge.
It was an encouraging start. Twenty-eight newcomers and casuals attended, which is a pleasing result for a new event series. Regulars also turned out in reasonable numbers, particularly considering how many members are currently competing and touring elsewhere around the country.
Feedback is always welcome as we continue to refine the format.
One apology is due: a setting error resulted in a control being placed just inside an area marked as out of bounds. From all accounts it did not affect anybody's run.
Thanks to the KO members who assisted with instruction and control collection on the day, and to Melinda for handling event administration. And a big thank you to Graham Braid for setting the courses for the first ever NavRun event!
