This past Sunday, Perth Modern School hosted NavDash10 on a brand-new sprint map, and despite stormy skies and bursts of torrential rain, more than 100 orienteers turned out for a fantastic day of racing.

The weather didn’t dampen spirits, with competitors navigating fast and technical courses around the school grounds set by student, Quinn Lommers. On the Long course, young Rohan Braid impressed with a strong win, while the ever-reliable Anthea Feaver showed her consistency in taking out the Short course. The Easy course was well contested, with Christine Brown securing the win.

One of the highlights of the day was seeing over 20 new participants giving orienteering a go for the very first time. Thanks to the warm welcome and clear beginner instruction provided by our volunteers, many of these newcomers had smiles on their faces despite the rain.

A huge thank you to Nick Dale for preparing the new map (with credit to Ian Fletcher for the original version), and to everyone who helped make the event run smoothly: Richard Mathews, Nicole Davis, and Ian and Jan Fletcher for welcoming and beginner support, plus our hardworking control collectors — Mike, Anthea, Helen B, Rosemary, Tony, Katherine, Neve, and Riley. A big thank you also goes to Quinn who set some really interesting courses for us to enjoy.

The event was a great showcase of orienteering’s community spirit — with competitors, volunteers, and newcomers alike braving the elements to share a memorable day.

Results are on Eventor, and some competitor route choices are on Livelox.
