The event was co-set by Nomads Liam Dufty and Riley McFarlane, with Rachel West as controller/organiser. Despite being Liam and Riley’s first time setting a bush event, lots of people were happy across the board with all courses.
In terms of the thinking process of Riley and Liam, they brainstormed the H1 to replicate an ‘Elite course’ standard of setting, H2-3 at a normal 'Hard course' standard, and H4 being set at as a technically hard course with minimal physical difficulty. There were lots of small consecutive short legs with only a few long legs across hilltops, which provided great enjoyment across all courses. While setting the M, E and VE provided challenges, thankfully nobody fell into the control placed at the top of the 3m cliff along the watercourse. Newcomers, sub-elites and lifetime members enjoyed the courses in a normally tough and tRicky area to plan, set and/or complete an orienteering course successfully. Thanks also to Ian Fletcher for his X-Short (aka H5) course.
Craig Dufty was first male on the H1 course (no females competed), Graham Braid was first male and Ceri Pass first female on the H2, line honours for the H3 went to Matt Seward and Amy Dufty, while Oliver Martin and Carol Brownlie led on the H4. Jack Dowling and Jennifer Major led on the X-Short (H5) course, Andre and Ted Morkel, followed by Nicole Sibbald, were leaders on the M course, Kiesten, Charlie and Callan Morkel won the E with Katherine Lommers second, and Christine Brown placed first on the VE, with Jenny Komyshan second.
Major thanks go to to control collectors Matt Seward, Craig and Amy Dufty, Lachlan, Rohan and Kate Braid, Ceri Pass and Joseph Coleman. Liisa Hirvonen and Jack and Sue Dowling helped wih arena setup and toilet towing. Finally, a very big thank you goes to setters Riley and Liam, supported by Rachel.
