The first-ever Summer Sprint Series event was held on the last day of November at Lumen Christi College. This venue had not previously been used for an OWA event, but it proved to be a very interesting area for a sprint event. The courses started off in the built-up area of the school, then  transitioned into a small bushland area with a route choice leg around a lake before returning to the campus buildings.

There were several navigational challenges for all competitors. Especially leg 8-9 on the long course proved to be a conundrum as it was difficult to spot that a high fence and an out-of-bounds area closed off access from the west. If you lost a significant amount of time on this leg, you weren't alone, as the splits indicate that about two-thirds of all competitors did the same.

Congratulations to the winners on the long course, Ricky Thackray and Kate Braid. According to splits analysis on attackpoint.org, Kate was the only competitor who managed to get around the course without losing time on any of the controls. Very impressive! Congratulations also to course winners Duncan Sullivan and Neve Lommers on the short course and Sue Dowling on the easy course.

A big thank you to Sharon McFarlane for organising access to the school grounds, to Melinda Richards for handling the administration and results, and to all the control collectors: Rob Beattie, Paul Dowling, Jack Dowling, Sue Dowling, Ian Clayton, Ricky Thackray, Nigel Wade and Ruben Claessens. A very big thank you goes to the setter Sten Claessens.

Results can be found in Eventor, and some routes in Livelox.

We look forward to seeing you all at the next event, Metro 4, at Trigg.
