Piara Waters
The latest MetrO event introduced a new map of Piara Waters from absentee course setter and mapper Ricky Thackray, who showed up just for the weekend to run the event before promptly fleeing the state again (temporarily). Conditions were on the warmer side of comfort but the hot weather predictor at 5pm allowed for full length courses to be run.
Piara Waters is by no means a straightforward area with streets at all sorts of angles, many small parks, a couple of creeks running through the map and a large nature reserve dominating the SE area. On the whole the area is very flat with 2.5m contours required to show any sort of lumps and bumps! The recent bushfires had a small impact on routes and control placements but these were easily avoided.
We had a couple of new families come along to enjoy the event and they appreciated their prizes. Ricky was also able to organise the roaming ice cream van to stop by near the end of the event to provide welcome relief... until his generator stopped working and he had to go and get it fixed (fortunately he returned shortly afterwards).
Congratulations on this week's winners. On the short course, the winners were (female and male respectively) Carol Brownlie and Tony Simpkins, on the medium the winners were Ceri Pass and Ruben Claessens, and the long winners were Kate Braid and Sten Claessens.
A big thank you goes to setter Ricky. Thanks are also due to this week's helpers: Volker, Jason, Sten, Ruben, Rob B, Heike, Ceri, Kate and Rohan for control collection; to Rosalie for running the computer; and finally to Tash for driving Ricky around in 40C+ heat to put out the controls!
Results are in Eventor, and you can check out controls visited, splits and more on the details page.
