MTBO came out of its hibernation last Sunday for the 2023 long championships, held at Mt Gunjin.

The weather held fair. The courses were reasonable - marked by long legs with a number of route choices (particularly once the contours of Mt Gunjin were taken into account). Only Ben Coetzer braved the double black diamond ‘Luvin Shovels’ single track option for the leg to the finish, noting ‘it was a lot longer than it looks on the map’.

The open championship classes were won by Debbie McKay for the women and Hadrien Devillepoix for the men.

Thanks to everyone who helped make the event possible, including Richard Begley (event setter), Jack and Sue Dowling, Hadrien Devillepoix and Duncan Sullivan. Thanks also to those who collected controls - Mark Newhouse, Andre Morkel, Ben Coetzer, Volker Gartz and Debbie McKay. Also thanks to those who brought the yummy cakes and slices - Penny Dufty, Sue Dowling and Debbie McKay.

Results can be found on Eventor. Upload your course, or see others' route choices, on Livelox
