Come and join us Saturday afternoon, November 9 for the next MetrO series event at Piney Lakes.

This weekend's MetrO event will be held at beautiful Piney Lakes in Winthrop, a map that has an interesting mix of park, bushland and suburban streets, newly updated by Michael and Patrick Dufty.  Piney Lakes includes 17 ha of developed parkland and 50 ha of bushland and wetland environments with some remnants of the pine plantations that covered the areas from the 1920s to 1960s and was a sacred site for Nyoongar women. The map extends beyond the reserve to the pleasant streets and parks of Winthrop. If doing the Short course, you can choose a route entirely within the reserve if you wish and a route for the Medium course can be almost entirely within the reserve.

A large part of the parkland is an off-leash dog area, but dogs are not permitted off sealed tracks in the nature reserve, making 2 controls out of bounds for them, one of these is on a sand track unsuitable for strollers.  All other controls should be accessible to everyone (there are plenty to choose from). Parking is at the main reserve entrance off Murdoch Drive, you may be directed to overflow parking on the grass.

To protect the bushland from dieback everyone is asked to clean their shoes before entering.  If you have not cleaned your shoes beforehand and wish to enter the reserve you will need to allow time to use the shoe cleaning stations. See more information about this event here >>
