25th May 2019

Location: Banyowla Regional Park, Mills Rd East, MartinTashGlenForest2019

The second mountain bike orienteering event for the year will be held in bushland in the Kelmscott/Martin area of the Perth hills. This is a great area to get on your bike, hit the hills and hone those navigational skills.

Banyowla MTBO map is known for being hilly, but do not despair! The MTBO course lengths have been shortened drastically. Short courses stay to the North east of the map, with minimal climb and estimated distance of 10-12 kms, perfect for newcomers and those who are saving their legs for the Orienteering on Sunday! Middle courses get to explore the hillside with a distance of 15-16 kms to allow for climb. Long courses have been shortened to roughly 20 kms, however the long course will involve some difficult navigation, not to mention our favourite hills. Roads are rideable with potential for route choice on the map, however it is noted you must obey road rules at all times for your own safety.

For the first time ever OWA are running a 1.5 hour “guided tour” led by an accredited Level 1 Mountain Bike Coach on the day, at the same start location for people who want to get into mountain biking. The guided tour is an easy social ride on the Banyowla map avoiding the major hills and introducing you to mountain biking, basic bike handling skills, how to use a map to navigate and building confidence on the trails. The guided tour is aimed towards new and novice riders of all ages, no experience necessary – just let us know you are interested in coming by emailing us at This email address is being protected from spambots. This is open for anyone so feel free to spread the word! Bring a packed lunch and make it a day of adventure!
