This weekend (27-28 July) Queensland hosted the Australian MTBO Championships near Gympie in the Toolara South Forest.  Ricky Thackray, WA local MTBO Champion had a strong ride on Sunday to win the Australian Long Distance Open Men’s Championships.  Ricky’s ride was just on 40km and 2hours.  The map had a complex track network taking a lot of concentration to get the route choice right, after a fast start Ricky caught and was racing with Callum Fegg for much of the race.

In the Middle Distance Championship held on Saturday Ricky had mechanical issues and had to carry his bike home. Duncan Sullivan was a close 2nd in the M50-59 category having held the lead until late in the race. Duncan missed a control on the Middle distance event and National MTBO Coach WA's Ian Dalton was in mid-field on both days.

Ricky and Ian are off the World MTBO Championships next month where Ricky is a riding for Australia and Ian is the team coach. Full results can be found at:
