NavRun 5: JFNP

NavRun events are designed to provide accessible, enjoyable navigation experiences for newcomers and experienced orienteers alike. Courses encourage navigation skill development.

This NavRun event will be run in the much-changed JFNP public area. DBCA / Parks and Wildlife have made significant changes to the old tavern area and surrounds. Our event will be run from the new western carpark so pay particular attention to the turn signs as soon as you turn off Great Eastern Highway into Park Road. The O map has been updated as much as possible.

Some of the works are still in progress. Apart from the removal of the tavern itself, there has been a large investment in an elevated walkway from that area across Glen Brook to a new carpark. The tavern area has been rehabilitated with much new seating and many BBQs. Unfortunately, the elevated walkway is a work in progress with only the eastern half accessible at this stage.

All this investment has inevitably resulted in increased fees to access the park. New card operated ticket machines have been installed at both parking areas – the basic fee is now $17 PER CAR, so carpooling is strongly recommended. Parks passes are accepted and must be displayed on your dashboard.

Courses: Long (4.3km), Short (3.2km), Easy (1.8km).
Pre-entry (preferred): Available via Eventor, or enter at the event between 8:30 and 10:00 am.
Start Times: From 9:30am to 10:30am.
Courses Close: Noon. You need to return to the assembly area by this time, whether or not you have completed your course. 
Please bring: Your SI card and compass or these can be borrowed at the event. Also bring sunscreen, a hat, a whistle and water bottle (plus water and electrolytes for after you finish), and comfortable walking or running shoes.

Note that the new facilities are proving popular so competitors will need to be constantly alert to other foot and bicycle traffic while on their courses.
