Manning Park offers a great opportunity to experience a bit of bush orienteering in a convenient metropolitan location. A range of courses have been set using the multitude of tracks crisscrossing the lake, park and the coastal bushland, offering a range of sights with something for everyone - regardless of age, orienteering experience or fitness level. For those new to orienteering, coaches/instructors will be on hand to get you started.
NavRun events, new to this season, are designed to provide accessible, enjoyable navigation experiences for newcomers and experienced orienteers alike. Courses encourage navigation skill development.
Courses: Long (4.7 km), Short (2.2) km, Easy (1.6 km). These distances are measured on the straight line. Expect to go a bit further depending on the route you choose (Long ~6.1km, Short ~3.2km, Easy ~1.8km). There is also a significant amount of climb (Long ~150m, Short ~85m, Easy ~30m), so please choose your course appropriately.
Entry: Pre-entry is preferred via Eventor, or enter at the event between 8:30 and 10:00 am.
Start Times: From 9 am - 10:30 am.
Courses Close: Noon. You need to return to the assembly area by this time, whether or not you have completed your course.
Please bring: Your SI card and compass or these can be borrowed at the event. Also bring sunscreen, a hat and water bottle (plus water and electrolytes for after you finish), and comfortable walking or running shoes.
Parking: There are a couple of carparks in Manning Park along Azelia Road, all within walking distance of the assembly area. Please park in an actual carpark and not on the verge.
Start and Finish: The start is 300 m from the assembly area up a hill (~30m) on a small sandy path. The finish is about 100 m from the assembly (and can be seen from the assembly area).
More information can be found on Eventor.
