Our second summer sprint will be held at Shenton College. This is a great opportunity to practice for the NOL events being held in March this year in Perth - including public races that everyone can participate in, regardless of your skill or fitness level. Come and enjoy the challenging navigation around the school buildings and sport areas!
For those unfamiliar with sprint events: the main difference with MetrO events is that competitors must visit controls in the order of their number on the map, and that competitors start one by one (or in their group) at one minute intervals. The events are held on maps with a larger scale, i.e. in a smaller area, typically at a school or university campus or parkland area. Courses are shorter and quick thinking will be required to get around as fast as possible. You can do multiple courses for the price of one if you have the time.
Pre-entry is preferred and is available via Eventor. If you are not a member of OWA but would like to enter online, you will need to register an account on Eventor before completing your entry. Then, once logged into Eventor, select the event and enter and pay online. See our guide for How to register on Eventor.
Enter-on-the-day (EOD) will be available at the event from 4.15pm, if you are unable to enter beforehand.
Courses: Three courses will be available - Easy (1.6 km), Short (2 km) and Long (2.9 km).
Beginners' briefing: 4:20pm.
Start Times: Between 4:30pm and 5:30pm.
Courses Close: 6:15pm. Please return to the assembly area by this time, even if you have not finished your course.
Facilities: Toilets.
Bring: Your SI card and compass or these can be borrowed at the event. Also bring sunscreen, insect repellent, a hat and water bottle, a whistle, and comfortable walking or running shoes.
More information is available in Eventor, including directions to the event and Information Flyer.
If you are new to orienteering and/or sprint events, check out some general info about Sprint events on our website.
Important note: Sprint event maps contain features which must not be crossed or entered, even if it is possible to do so. Some out-of-bounds areas are more obvious (e.g. garden beds) but some do not have physical boundaries (e.g. around cafes) so read your map carefully! Check out a sample legend with uncrossable features for sprint events, and make sure to check the legend on your map at each event!
