• Preparing for ASOC

The Western Australian Schools Team are preparing for the Australian Schools Orienteering Competition (ASOC) in Armidale NSW, 28th September to 6th October.

This competition, part of the Australian Orienteering Championships, will see the team compete in seven events over the nine days - two sprints, two long distance, two relay events and one middle distance. Fortunately there are two rest days for athletes to recuperate - and catch up on washing.

Being in the Schools team gives the athletes the privilege of representing their State in competition with athletes from other Australian States, ACT and New Zealand. All school athletes stay together, with all meals organised and several fun, social
activities for them to mingle and start or continue their Orienteering friendships.

Our team of 12 this year proved they have the skills and personality to enjoy themselves in a team. To be selected for the team, each was required to complete several selection events, demonstrating their capabilities across the various event types. Team members have continued their training by attending the winter junior camp, usual bush and sprint events and extra training run by our international coaches in residence, Jiri and Veronika as well as Kate, Liam and several others.

When you see Arvin, Amy, Lachlan, Tucker, Neve, Christopher, Rohan, Ruben, Edmund, Archie, Troy or Quinn at events, please congratulate them and continue to support with advice and encouragement.
