A total of 21 participants had entered across the 3 courses, with some probably regretting it when they pitched up, just to find a decent drizzle/rain on that day (8mm the records say). Not quite a 100 year flood, but certainly for the duration of the event it rained, with participants coming back covered in mud to varying degrees and a few with forced smiles/grimaces on their faces.

Courses were mostly on vehicle bush tracks, although narrow trail bike routes were also available (and used by some of the riders). The rain resulted in some of the tracks becoming quite soft, making cycling a bit more challenging (ie harder!). One or two tracks hadn’t been mapped during the pre-event mapping excursions, which caused uncertainty for a few riders. And some of the overgrown bush tracks were apparently also difficult to spot (next time will need to do a bit of clearing to make them more obvious).

Hadrien shot off like a rocket at the start, putting him in first place on the Long course. But 2nd and 3rd place on Long was a difference of a mere 3 seconds, so well done to Duncan and Veronika, respectively.

Several riders volunteered for control collection, so thank you to Hadrien, Richard, Martin and Heike (hope I didn’t I miss anyone). Thanks to Rob for taking photos and a big shoutout to Jack, who looked after the trailer, set everything up, managed the registrations and towed the caravan back to the shed afterwards. Finally, many thanks to setters Volker (and Ricky, in absentia).
