Event report: MetrO 11
Saturday, 03 February 2024
The cool breeze offered some relief from the three 40 degree days last week, setting the scene for a pleasant day of orienteering at Event 11 of the MetrO series! 85 participants dashed and wove their way through the streets of Woodvale to find controls scattered around parks, tied to light posts and hung on fences. The event saw lots of newcomers attend and take on the updated map, traversing the various parks and pathways in the area.
Planning was important as there were many route options to choose from on the map. The end result was tight competition with similar distances across various routes. On the short course the winners were Neve Lommers and Ken Post, whilst the medium had Nick Dale and Kristin Viikmaa emerge victorious. On the long course young gun Liam Dufty beat out Sten for the first time this season and Rachel West won the women's course.
The event would not have been possible without the help from all the volunteers. A big thank you to setter Andries Swart; Helen for doing the newcomers briefing; Rosalie and Melinda on the computer; Alexandra for helping pack everything; Carol & Ken for helping set up as well as organising all the control collection, and the control collectors, Helen and Ken P, Carol, Ken B, Daisy, Rosalie, Christine and Brian.
Results are in Eventor, and you can check out controls visited, splits and more on the details page.
Upload your track to Livelox and compare your route choices with those of your fellow orienteers.
