Despite passing through many foggy patches whilst en-route to Marginata, the day turned out very pleasant for orienteering with a warm sun alternating with cloud. Eighty-eight competitors appeared to have enjoyed the day.
We thank chief setter Mark Lommers, setter Robert Graeig and Richard Matthews who kept an eagle eye on the whole event. Thanks to instructors Jan Fletcher and Peter Standen, Melinda Richards in the caravan, and to the control collectors, Anna Napier, John Taylor, Helen Bailey, Quinn Lommers, Liisa Hirvonen, Robert Graieg and Chas Lane.
Perturbation set in when one competitor did not return within a reasonable time, and people were sent out to drive all tracks within surrounding areas, as well as others to follow the competitor's course and to check possible areas nearby. As time went on, police were informed and carried on the search. There had been two reports of probable sightings, and finally we were informed the competitor was found safe and well. Thank you to the many people from LOST who offered their help, staying until quite late and it was apparent the police had the situation under control.
Many thanks to Peter Gillon for remaining with the caravan, and to John and Jeanine Taylor for keeping the toilets in place. A special mention goes to Quinn Lommers, who suggested checking all the SI controls to find where the lost competitor last checked a control, and then showed how it could be done. Well done, Quinn.
