Event report: Bush 3 Wundabiniring Brook

Sunday, 22 May 2022

East of The Lakes

Seventy one people enjoyed the first SOL (State O League) event of the season. The Wundabiniring area has subtle features, but fantastic runability, allowing this event to be fast and furious. The weather was warm, and fortunately the rain held off until all the controls had been collected.

Winning times were all within the targets for a middle distance event, the only disappointing part being that no-one ran what was considered to be a very good E-course.

There was a bit of time spent scratching heads when setting the courses, wondering which 0.4m pebble the mappers had identified as mappable boulders, but the setters think they chose the correct one each time. Many runners found the mapping the more indistinct the paths confusing. This area could be improved with a remap to current standards.

Thanks go to Ceri Pass and Graham Braid for setting and controlling the courses and towing the caravan, and Dave and Wendy on dunny-duty. Melinda sorted the computing caper. Thank you also to a wonderful band of control wranglers – Jan & Russell Candy, John & Jenny Major, Joseph Coleman, Volker Gartz, Tim & Quinn Sharp, Sten Claessens and the Braid kids.
