Register <here> for the penultimate 2020/21 MetrO event of the season!
This event takes place on a (final?) new tRicky map at Claisebrook. A more central location couldn't be asked for. The area has a lot of history and you'd be hard pressed to recognise it if you were transported back in time 150 years. Orienteers in today's age will have their work cut out for them with a super compact course (it's on a 1:8000 map!) with plenty of parkland, roaring rivers (well the sauntering Swan at least), Claisebrook Cove, boarded bridges, plentiful pathways, hectic hills, streamlined streets, cafes, restaurants, not to mention the million dollar views. The map also includes the sites of the old East Perth power station and gasworks so you can check out a bit of history on your grand tour.
Come and enjoy what will most likely be tRicky's last ever Metro event setting in WA and prepare to be befuddled from the get-go in what could arguably be his finest work yet (subject to popular review). Unfortunately due to the nature of the area, wheeled vehicles are not really suitable because of the many stairs and the volume of pedestrian traffic likely through the area. Note also the parking limitations mentioned in Eventor and have a look at the document outlining special course setting symbols used for this event. There will also be one or two busy streets with the potential for crossing though there are underpasses available if planned correctly - the short course *can* be completed without crossing busy streets.
The start is at Mardalup Park, Brown St, East Perth. Please try to arrive early or car pool if possible as there is very limited parking at the event start. There is further parking at Jewell Ln car park (300m), or surrounding streets, which is typically free on Saturdays but please check signs because different restrictions apply on opposite sides of the same street! If you're willing to walk a bit further, Summers St north of the power station (800m) has plenty of parking as does the Camfield (1.5km) on the other side of the river (across Matagarup Bridge). Parking on the south side of Claisebrook Cove is typically fee payable all weekend.
Three different distances will be on offer: Short 2-3 km, Medium 4-6 km and Long 8-9 km (a bit longer than normal). So whether you're new and trying orienteering for the first time or a seasoned pro, there's something for you.
Pre-registration is encouraged. Please register now through Eventor.
With the current uncertainties, registration will stay open in Eventor until 12noon on Saturday.
Please pre-enter if at all possible - group registration is possible by adding an additional participant (up to 5 allowed in the group but you only need to pay once).
If people are entering/running the course separately then they need to be registered as separate entries.
IF THE COVID RESTRICTIONS CONTINUE PAST FRIDAY NIGHT, REFUNDS WILL BE MADE AUTOMATICALLY.
If you forget to pre-enter, you will still be able enter when you arrive at the event on the day. Just don't forget!
This event will be using SI TIMING so bring your SI card if you have one, or pick up your loan card when you arrive (at no extra cost).
