General Information

Karrak Karnival, the 2014 Australian foot-Orienteering Championships carnival, will be held in Western Australia from September 27th to October 5th, in the middle of WA’s famous wildflower season.

The carnival will comprise nine events over the nine days. The four national championship events will be part of the Silva National Orienteering League competition and the three individual championships have received World Ranking Event status.  Bags containing chest numbers, start lists, event information, legends with Aus’ Long model map, hired SI-tags, pre-purchased running shirts and other goodies, can be collected at Registration, which will be available as follows.

For WA entrants only: At the event on Sunday 21 Sept’ at Marginata.

For all entrants:
1: At the OAWA equipment shed between 5pm and 8 pm on Friday September 26.
This is at the Early Childhood center of Lake Monger Primary School in Dodd St, Glendalough, which is an inner (for Perth) northern suburb.
Note there are no facilities near the shed. The nearest public toilets are 300 m away and lock automatically at 8 pm, so don’t be caught out - or in!

From Central Perth: Follow the Mitchell Freeway north about 3 km. Exit at Powis St and turn Left at the end of the ramp. After 500 m, at the traffic lights, turn Left on to Harborne St. After 200 m turn first Left, east, on to Dodd St.
Park in Dodd St. There is plenty of space up this road.

From the north: Take the Mitchell Freeway south. Exit at Hutton St and turn Right at the end of the ramp. Cross the Freeway and after about 200 m at traffic lights turn Left, south, on to Frobisher St, which later becomes Harborne St. Continue south for about 2.5 km, through two sets of traffic lights, the last at Powis St. After 200 m turn first Left, east, on to Dodd St.
Park in Dodd St. There is plenty of space up this road.

2: At events from 8.am

Please try to collect your bags before the Saturday morning 27 Sept’ as that will be busy.

Two open-entry events will follow the mid week School Championships on the same days, so there will be two rest days.

Any Time

On rest days visit Fremantle, Perth's port city, for Welcome 2 Fre-O, a free Orienteering discovery activity that you can do at any time .  Fabulous Fre-O will lead you to most of the historic features of the area, past many of the 50 coffee shops in Freo and surrounds, and even to the home of the furture AFL Premiers! You can use the Karrak Karnival Facebook site to see how you fared against you friends and foes!

We hope you enjoyed the challenge, had a chance to stop for a coffee (there's lots of cafes in Freo), visited some of the historic sites, and got to know this interesting slice of WA a lot better.

 Orienteering events will be held on exciting new maps near Bunbury and Margaret River.
