Whiteman Park is a large bushland park located 22km north of the Perth CBD. It is open throughout the year from 8.30am to 6.00pm. Access to the Park is from Beechboro Rd North, or from Lord St.
For individuals or small family groups no booking is required to attempt the orienteering courses. All school and larger groups must contact the Bookings Officer on 9209 6000 to notify Whiteman Park of their intention to use the courses. This is to avoid clashes with incompatible activities such as major events or maintenance works. On the day of the visit all groups must check in at Administration or call 9209 6000 so they can be notified in case of an emergency.
Courses : there are 3 standard line courses available:
Short Easy: 1.3km with 5m climb
Medium: 2.2km with 15m climb
Long: 3.4km with 20m climb
There is also a scatter course with all 16 controls. The start and the finish of all these courses is the northern corner of car park 26, on the west side of Mussel Pool. Other starts could be used by anyone prepared to design their own course using the existing control sites shown on the scatter course map.
When on an orienteering course please obey all signs, leave gates as you found them, and look out for vehicles when crossing tracks and roads. DO NOT ENTER AREAS SHOWN AS OUT OF BOUNDS ON THE MAP, INCLUDING THE TRAIN AND TRAM TRACKS!
Note:
There is an additional map of the Whiteman Park Village using a ‘scatter’ format, i.e. one that allows you to choose which controls you visit and in which order. It is ONLY available from the Visitor Information Centre in the Village.
Information on the types of Control Markers and the Control Letter Codes, to check whether the course was completed correctly, are contained in the Anytime Orienteering Whiteman Park Guide (PDF).
