The Be Active Level 0 Orienteering Instructors Clinic gives teachers and outdoor instructors the skills and knowledge to develop and run basic Orienteering programs for students and youth groups. Two courses will be offered this year. The WA Level 0 pamphlet 2010.pdf includes full details of these courses and a nomination form.
The Be Active Development Officer can also run Level 0 courses for individual schools and other groups on demand. Phone 9228 0085, or email , or refer to the above nomination form for further information.
Your school, or a nearby park, or camp can be mapped professionally by the Be Active Development Officer. The final map is produced on OCAD, a cartography software program, and can be printed in colour or black and white. The cost for a primary school map is $132.00, incl. GST, and for a secondary school $220.00, incl. GST. Schools that already have OCAD maps can have them updated free of charge.
Alternatively, schools can produce their own school map on OCAD. A free version of the software (version 6) can be downloaded from the
OCAD web site .
Other Orienteering resources for schools include maps and permanent courses, and a 30-page booklet for teachers interested in developing their own Orienteering programs. The Orienteering Shop can also provide equipment for schools.
Orienteering Australia has some very useful online Coaching Tips. This material is copyrighted, but students may undertake the 15 short lessons online.
