Stirling the next stop for Metro Series
Tuesday, 2 February 2010
This week’s Be Active Metro Series event starts at 5.00pm from West Balcatta Primary School, on the corner of Amelia St and Cedric St in Balcatta. You don’t even need your car – take the train to Stirling Station, then a number 424 bus for a 5 minute ride, and get off right next to the school! (Check timetable here.)
Registration is from 4.30pm, and the usual briefing for first time orienteers will be at 4.50pm. Courses have been set by Orienteering Western Australia President John Toomey, and are suitable for beginners with three distances available: Short 2-3kms, Medium 5-6kms, Long 7-8kms.
Last week saw 120 entries at Atwell, with Ben Corry scoring a repeat win on the Long course, and Lee Holliday winning the Medium. Full results here, plus Routegadget.
The Overall Series competition is hotting up, with only four more events to go. Ben Corry and Sten Claessens are neck and neck on the Long Course, but Steve Fletcher, Ricky Thackray and Craig Dufty could all come through to win with good results in the last four events.
On the Medium Course Lee Holliday has a good lead over Chip Lundstrom, while Peter Holliday needs two or three consistent runs to catch his older brother. 10 year-old Oliver Martin has a slight edge over his Mum Michelle on the Short Course, but Nathan Binks has a good chance to overtake them. Full course standings here, age class standings here.
