Metro Series Underway
Sunday, 15 November 2009
121 people ran and walked around the lakes, parks and streets of Carine between 5 and 6pm on Saturday, welcoming the start of the 2009/2010 Be Active Metropolitan Orienteering season.
Winning times ranged from 17 to 34 minutes for the short and long courses. Most took longer but still enjoyed the fun of exercising and navigating simultaneously.
There were lots of groups ( families and friends ) participating for the first time and their favourable comments mean they’ll be back for more at Kings Park next week. Many brought dogs on leads – maybe we should introduce a category for the loyal hounds and handlers, not to mention parents with prams!
Congratulations to the winners Oliver Martin (Short), Henry McNulty (Medium), and Steve Fletcher (Long). Steve just managed to hold off Oscar McNulty and avoid a clean sweep by the Juniors. The first women on each course were Cath Chalmers and Aoife Rothery (Short), Cathryn Baylis (Medium), and Kim Hazeldine (Long).
The full results have now been published.
The next Be Active Metro Series event is at Kings Park on Saturday 21st November at 5.00pm. The assembly area is near the corner of Saw Avenue and May Drive, and if this is your first event, make sure you register by 4.45pm and attend the Newcomer’s Briefing, where you will be shown what you have to do.
Come along and enjoy some late wildflowers in the Park, and take on the challenge to solve the usual route choice puzzle. Once you have worked this out, navigating around your chosen course should be easy!
The Be Active Metro Series is proudly sponsored by Healthway to promote the Heart Foundation’s Be Active message. Additional sponsorship is by Brooks and Runners World.
