Monday, 26 October 2009
Heard of orienteering but never
quite known what it involves? Then on Saturday 7th November, come to
Carine Open Space, off Beach Rd
near the central club rooms between 2 and 4pm. This is Registration Day for the
local orienteering club – WOW ( Wullundigong Orienteers of the West ).
Prospective members can join on the spot or register their interest. A quiz
course will be available to try for FREE on the day with experts on hand to
show you how!!!
The following week, on Saturday 14th
November, Orienteering WA's 2009/2010 MetrOpolitan series of
orienteering events commences – a flier with event locations for the whole series will be
available on registration day. Anybody wishing to experience orienteering close
to home is invited to come along and try the 'thought sport'. No previous
experience is necessary as a briefing will be given prior to starting.
People of any fitness level and any age can participate as orienteering can be
done by walking or running. Dogs on a leash and babies in prams are
welcome.
Orienteering is a sport/recreation
where the participant has to navigate around a course marked on a map. At the
Metropolitan series there are 3 different courses - distances are about 3km,
5km and 8km. At its highest level, orienteering is an international sport
requiring an exceptional level of fitness and at its lowest, an excellent
family or group activity in parks, streets, schools or bush. Why not try
something new this year ? Walking or running shoes/
clothes is all the equipment required as the map is supplied as part of the
entry fee and compasses are unnecessary.
Joining
