Daylight Saving Week Night Orienteering Program
For the final Summer of the Daylight Saving trial in Western Australia, we are proud to announce a series of week night after-work orienteering events. The events will be in varying formats, and on different days of the week. They will all start around 6.00pm - 6.30pm, and most will be low-key, informal affairs.
Watch this page for further details! The midweek series is proudly supported by:
OrientShow at Maylands
Results of the Maylands Orientshow can be downloaded below, as well as a map of all the controls.
OrientShow at Daglish
Results of the OrientShow can be downloaded below (Excel file). Overall and leg results are displayed on separate worksheets. A map of all the controls is also available in pdf format.
This format was developed in Europe and has proved highly popular. Basically it is a sprint-type event with lots of controls in a small area, most of them visible to spectators. Competitors are given a map at the start, but no control codes or descriptions - if a wrong control is punched you are given a time penalty (usually 30 seconds). Courses are short (600m-1000m), but you will run three courses and aggregate times (including penalties) will determine the results.
Sportident will be used for all controls, so bring your e-tag, or hire one at the event. All maps will be full colour, 1:2,000 scale. Results will be published by age class.
Here is an example of an OrientShow event, however this particular event was a knockout-type with three rounds. The Daglish event will have three rounds for all competitors with the times aggregated. Full details here: OrientShow.doc .
The event proved very popular with all participants, despite the heat (30+C), and lack of results processing. Next time I'll use the Relay software!
