Standard Bush Courses

These are details of the courses available at standard bush events The maps show example courses on the Manering Lagoon map.

The H courses use International Symbols for control descriptions.
 

VE

Very Easy course for novices, it is set entirely on easy to follow line features such as tracks, fences and streams. If it goes cross country a route is marked with tapes. 1.5-2km

E

Easy course the can be done entirely on linear features but offers unmarked cross country route choices that are shorter and  faster. 2.5-4km

M

Moderate course which needs basic cross country navigation. Requires the ability to interpret larger contour features, as it goes off line features. Controls are on obvious features, or if not, within 100m of a line feature. 4-5km

H4

Hard navigation course for older or less fit competitors, less physically demanding  than the other hard courses 2.5-4km

H3

Hard navigation course. Hard courses require the ability  to interpret fine contour detail and have a knowledge of all basic skills eg. aiming off, pacing, rough compass, thumbing map, attack points, catching features. 4-6km

H2

Hard navigation course which is as difficult as possible while remaining fair 6-8.5km

H1

Hard navigation course which is as difficult as possible while remaining fair 7.4-14km
