Western Nomads squad 2010

Wednesday, 27 January 2010

Expressions of interest are called from any member who wishes to be involved in the Western Nomads squad for 2010. The Western Nomads are WA's orienteers who race or aspire to race in the National Orienteering League (NOL) or the Junior National Orienteering League (JNOL) by competing in M/W21E or M/W20E categories.

There are 17 events making up the National Orienteering League events this year spread over 6 weekends or looking at it a different way, 2 additional weekends outside of Easter and the Aust. Champs carnivals.

According to OAWA policy (2004) we can have a squad of up to 18 people in the official squad and in 2010 we intend to resume some specific coaching activities for our squad members, whether or not the individuals choose to travel east to NOL events. However, to access the travel subsidy offered by OAWA you must nominate and be included in the Western Nomads Squad for 2010.

OAWA Council has accepted Ian Dalton's kind offer to act as Squad Manager so please email Ian prior to the 12th February. Ian will announce the squad shortly thereafter, and prior to the first round of NOL races. Note that additional squad members can be added later through the season so you don't have to decide immediately. The Squad Manager will liaise with some of OAWA's accredited coaches and interseted parties and with a bit of luck there will be a small number of opportunities to get together as a group and work on some navigation and race training.
